Just back from a short but successful trip to Cyprus (Nov. 8-12) with Prof. Jesse Casana and graduate student Adam Wiewel from the University of Arkansas to test out CAST’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or “drone”. We conducted a number of night time aerial surveys using a thermal camera at Kalavasos-Ayios Dhimitrios in order to see if we can detect differences in surface temperature that might indicated buried urban features. We also conducted daylight surveys using the colour digital camera to collect images that will allow us to create a detailed 3D surface model of the site. High winds cut short a thermal imagery flight at Maroni-Vournes/Tsaroukkas, but we were able to get in a successful digital colour flight.
